Concrete Evaluation & Repair 2

Architect Training Course

This 8-hour online course is the second in a series that provides guidance on evaluating the condition of the concrete in a structure, relating the condition of the concrete to the underlying cause or causes of that condition, selecting an appropriate repair material and method for any deficiency found, and using the selected materials and methods to repair or rehabilitate the structure. Where the first course focused on evaluation of concrete and causes of deterioration, this course focuses on the planning, design, and implementation of the repair itself. Guidance on maintenance of concrete is also included in this course. The course 'Concrete Evaluation & Repair 1' is not required but is suggested as a prerequisite for this course.

There will be a multiple-choice test at the end of each section.

At the conclusion of this course, you will have a clear understanding of:

  • Concrete repair materials
  • Repair material application and service conditions
  • Material selection
  • Characterization of repair approaches
  • Crack repair
  • Spalling and disintegration repair
  • Concrete removal techniques for repair
  • Methods for repair and rehabilitation (additional reinforcing, autogenous healing, crack arrest techniques, drilling and plugging drypacking, fiber-reinforced concrete, flexible sealing, gravity soak, chemical grouting, hydraulic cement grouting, jacketing, judicious neglect, polymers, overlays, preplaced aggregate, slabjacking, stitching and many others)
  • Concrete maintenance (cleaning, surface coatings and sealing compounds, joint maintenance)
